Troop 243 was started in Dyer during the early 1970's.
The Dyer First United Methodist Church was, and still is, he charter organization for the troop. Troop 243
has had 8 Scoutmasters over the years and has graduated
24 Eagles during this time. The Troop is very
active camping, hiking, canoeing and backpacking.
We also are actively involved in supporting our
community through various service projects.
Troop 243 strives to
teach young men about the outdoors through camping and
high adventure trips. We also provide
opportunities for them to serve their community and
teach them how to handle emergency situations.
Above all, Troop 243
teaches Scouts to treat others with respect, honesty,
and kindness. We hope to prepare our young men for
responsible citizenship in their community and the
world. |

Troop dues are $1 per
meeting throughout the school year. In addition to
these dues, there are camporee fees and summer camp
fees. Camp scholarships are available to scouts
under certain conditions. The Troop has two
fundraisers each year - Popcorn sales in the fall and an
annual Barbeque in May. The Troop is also the
recipient of generous donations throughout the year from
the community. The
Troop meets every Monday night at 7 p.m. in the Scout
house behind the Dyer Jr. High School Gym. The
Troop does not meet when school is not in session.
The Troop Committee is
comprised of current and past leaders as well as
involved parents who wish to volunteer their time.
